The original pocket watch! At a time when the sundial was most reliable method of timekeeping, travellers would need to ensure that their instruments were correctly aligned and level each time they were used. These folding pocket sundials therefore include a magnetic compass. A simple piece of string acts as the gnomon which casts the shadow and is set for latitudes around 50 degrees North, so will be most accurate in the south of England, northern Europe, Canada and so on. At these latitudes this is a functioning time indicator (in as much as sundials ever were!). Case diameter 5cm.
